Quilt Spectrum 2015

This year’s theme is “Boldly Going Where No Quilters Have Gone Before!” Sponsored by Hands All Around Quilt Guild, show will feature more than 200 quilts on display, a bed turning featuring modern quilt designs, quilters’ boutique, demonstrations and more. State Checkers Tournament
Mar 28 – Mar 29 all-day

The 110th Annual Illinois State Checker Tournament pits players against each other at the center court of the Illinois Star Centre Mall. The American Checker Federation requires a membership for all participants at the ACF sanctioned tournaments. There will be four rounds played on Saturday and three rounds on Sunday. This is a 3-move restriction with pairing by a modified Swiss system.

Underground Railroad Shuttle Tours

This two-hour guided shuttle tour stops at some of the sites that were part of the Underground Railroad including the Old Rock House, Rocky Fork Church and more. Alton’s riverfront location along the Mississippi played a vital role in helping slaves make connections to freedom. Red Hill Spring Craft and Market Show

Galena to Commemorate Sesquicentennial of Surrender at Appomattox

Beginning April 9, the Galena & U.S. Grant Museum have events planned throughout the month to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Gen. Robert E. Lee’s surrender to Gen. U. S. Grant, marking the end of the Civil War. Activities include theatrical performances, walking tours and exhibits, a Civil War fashion show, concerts and more. Go to the website for full details.
