Join us for our 48th Annual Fall Festival during the first two weekends in October. The Spoon River Valley Scenic Drive is a 140-mile driving route with more than 24 sites on it. Enjoy visiting the historic sites and traveling through the Spoon River Valley to see visitor attractions. Taste the foods at specific destinations that have become a tradition during the Fall Festival.

There is no registration fee for Walk; however, we ask every walker to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Walkers will need to sign a standard waiver through their official registration. Parents/guardians can register children online or complete an offline registration form and sign the waiver on behalf of the child.

Strollers are allowed, but for everyone’s safety, we discourage skateboards, bicycles, inline skates and wheelie footwear. Depending on the Walk location rules, well-behaved dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash at all times.

Every registered participant will receive a T-shirt after achieving the fundraising minimum of $100. Unless otherwise communicated, T-shirts will be available for pick up on Walk day.

Walk is a rain or shine event. However, in the case of severe weather, we will cancel. If this is the case, we will update our Walk homepage on or before the morning of the event.

Volunteers are needed to help with set-up, cleanup, registration, water stops, promise garden, the T-shirt tent and so much more. All interested volunteers should visit our volunteers page for more information about event day roles and responsibilities.

Galena County Fair boasts more than 150 vendors offering original, handmade arts, crafts and fine arts. Held in picturesque Grant Park overlooking historic Galena, the fair is a Columbus Day weekend tradition. Galena County Fair is a volunteer organized event, proceeds returned to the community through a grant program. Please support this worthy cause by attending the fair, participating int he silent auction and buying raffle tickets. See you at the fair!

Join us for food, fellowship and Fetessen (feast). Menu will include Brats, Wiener Schnitzel, Sauerkraut, German Potato Salad, Green Bean Salad (German Bohnesalat, Pickled Beets and Dill Pickles, Homemade White and Rye Breads, and for dessert, Pretzels, Black Forest Cake and Bread Pudding.
Tea, Lemonade, and Coffee will be available for dine-in orders only.
Carryout orders will be available. Free will donations will be accepted. All proceeds will help recover the cost to repair the brickwork of the church building.

Balloons Over Mt. Vernon and Fly-in

Balloons Over Mt. Vernon & Fly-in October 16-18, 2015 will feature18 hot air balloons and warbirds. Friday evening will kick off with the United Way Balloon Glow. Saturday will begin with the “Run with the Balloons” sponsored by the YMCA of Jefferson County. The US Bank Duck Drop hot air balloon flight will take place Saturday morning. The United Way of South Central Illinois will host a Pancake breakfast. P51 Mustang rides will be for sale all weekend. Tri-County Electric Co-op is sponsoring an aviation education zone. Come check out a remote control hot air balloon, flight simulators, and much more. Other events occurring through out the day will be a PV2 Harpoon on display, Waco rides, remote control boats, Veterans Reunion, and other family friendly activities. You never know what will be on the flight line. To finish out the day, Crossroads Hospital is sponsoring a “Survivor” hot air balloon flight. This will recognize “Survivors” who have faced diversity and survived. The weekend will wrap on Sunday morning with a fun Hot Air Balloon flight. There is so much to list, we are sure you won’t want to miss it!

Makanda Boardwalk Vulture Fest

Makanda Vulture Fest will be held Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, 2015 in downtown Makanda.

Each fall, vultures fly over Makanda and the surrounding areas and signal the beginning of fall and the arrival of the incredible fall colors of Makanda and southern Illinois. Vulture Fest features live music, food, shopping, and art by local artists for purchase.

Beta Sigma Phi 37th Annual Craft Show

Craftsmenfrom Midwest will offer variety of handcrafted items. Apples, pumpkina, kettle corn, and mums will be offered. Food will be served in cafeteria. No pets and strollers alowed inside. Proceeds from the show are used for community projects.

Evergreen Cemetery Comes Alive

Come join us for a free walking tour featuring a live portrayal of people from Chester’s interesting historic past. Including, but not limited to: political figures, comic book inspirations, and individuals providing glimpses into days long gone. Tours will last approximately one hour, and the last tour leaves at five PM. This event is rain or shine, however in event of heavy rain or severe weather it will be cancelled.
