I have been making these cookies for 30-35 years. When my kids were little, they would always request these cookies at Christmas, and still do now that they are grown! They were easy cookies to make, and the kids always helped. You can’t beat the buttery/sweet flavor of these cookies. They are delicious!
1/2 C. butter
1 C. sugar
1 medium egg
1/2 t. salt
2 t. baking powder
2 C. flour
1/2 t. vanilla
3/4 C. powdered sugar
3-4 t. water
Food coloring of choice, if desired
In a large bowl cream together the butter and sugar. Blend in the egg, then add vanilla.
In medium bowl blend flour, salt and baking powder and add to butter/sugar mixture. Chill dough, then roll to 1/8 – 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutters and place on a slightly greased cookie sheet. Bake in 400 degree oven for 8-10 minutes.
Glaze: Blend the powdered sugar and water. Add food coloring, if desired. While cookies are still warm, brush with the glaze.
