Buttermilk Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • Cinnamon for sprinkling
  • Sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 F. Cream butter and sugar well. Add eggs and mix well.
  • Sift together dry ingredients. Add buttermilk alternately with dry ingredients. Add vanilla.
  • Drop by spoon full onto well-greased baking sheet. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
  • Bake for 10-14 minutes.

Notes

When I was little, and even not so little, Grandma Jane would always have a cookie jar in the kitchen with these in it. Her kitchen always had the delicious smell of nutmeg and cinnamon.
