Coney Dog
There are strong Coney Dog traditions in Tulsa, Okla., the Midwest and other locations along Route 66.
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion finely diced and divided
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 2 cups water
- Salt to taste
- 6 all-beef hot dogs
- 6 buns
- Yellow mustard
In a pan over medium heat, brown beef and break up until crumbly. Drain fat.
Add 1/2 cup diced onion, tomato paste, chili powder, paprika, cumin and water to the beef and simmer for 20 minutes, until thickened. Add salt, to taste.
Grill or boil hot dogs.
Place dog in bun, top with coney sauce, onions and mustard.
