Paper Bag Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell
  • 4-6 apples (depending on size)

Filling:

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 T. all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. Cinnamon
  • 2 T. Lemon juice

Topping

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)

Instructions

  • Heat the oven to 425 F.
  • Peel, core and slice apples into large bowl.
  • Combine sugar, flour and cinnamon for filling mixture, sprinkle over apples and stir to coat well.
  • Pour into pie shell and drizzle with lemon juice.
  • In a small bowl, put topping flour and sugar. Cut in butter and pour over top of apples spreading to cover edges.
  • Slide pie into a heavy, brown paper bag (grocery bag). Fold end over twice and fasten with paper clips. Place on a large cookie sheet to bake.
  • Bake for 1 hour. Split bag to remove pie. Cool on wire rack.
  • Cut and serve plain or with ice cream.
