1961 Jam Cake

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 Cups Sugar
  • 1 Cup Shortening
  • 3 Cups Flour
  • 3 Eggs
  • 1 Cup Sour milk
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 1 Cup Jam
  • 3/4 Cup Raisins or nuts
  • 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1 Teaspoon Allspice
  • 6 Tablespoons Butter melted
  • 1/4 Cup Milk
  • 1 Teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1/2 Cup Brown sugar
  • 1 Cup Coconut
  • 1/2 Cup Nuts

Instructions

  • Mix sugar, shortening, flour, eggs, milk, cloves, jam, raisins or nuts, baking soda and allspice together. Pour into a 9x13-inch cake pan and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Top with brown sugar icing. Brown Sugar Icing: Cook butter, milk, vanilla, brown sugar, coconut and nuts together on the stovetop until thick.
