Archeology Day

Celebrate 70 years of archaeological education and research at Archeology Day with the Center for American Archeology in Kampsville, Illinois.
Archeology Day is the CAA’s free public event for all ages. Explore the fascinating 12,000-year history of the Lower Illinois River valley through fun hands-on activities, exhibits, presentations, and site tours by CAA archaeologists.

Special Guests and Activities
• Native American artist, Kimberly Bugg. Kimberly will be demonstrating corn cob dolls and speaking about their history and importance in Native culture.
• Native American artist, Kathy Dickerson. Kathy is a member of the Kiowa tribe. She will be demonstrating beadwork and can share information abut her leatherwork using traditional methods.
• Experimental archaeologist, Larry Kinsella. Larry is a CAA Legacy and is coordinating a never before attempted dugout canoe making project. He has invited stone tool enthusiasts from around the world to join him in chopping down and shaping a dugout canoe using only stone tools. This project is ongoing during the month and will be a featured part of our annual event.
• Tour the German Site, a Late Woodland Jersey Bluff phase (ca AD 800-1200) residential site currently being excavated by the CAA’s staff and field schools.
