Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup butter ( use only butter)
1 cup cooking oil
1 cup sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
4 cups flour
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. salt

Directions:

Cream the butter, oil, sugar, powdered sugar, and vanilla flavoring. Sift the remaining dry ingredients and add to the creamed mixture. Stir till thoroughly combined. Chill dough several hours or overnight. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll dough into balls the size of walnuts. Place on un-greased cookie sheet; then press down with a glass tumbler which has been greased and dipped into sugar. Decorate with colored sugar. Bake cookies 12 minutes or until slightly browned. Cool on wire racks; store in airtight containers. These cookies freeze well. Makes 8 dozen.

I got this recipe from my Home Economics class in junior high in the 1970’s and have made them every year for Christmas. They are rich and buttery. My family and co-workers ask me about making these sugar cookies every year!
