Down The Chimney Fudgies


2 squares unsweetened chocolate
1/2 C. shortening
1 C. granulated sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 C. sifted all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
(Optional) 1/2 C. nuts


Melt chocolate with a shortening in double broiler. Remove from heat & thoroughly stir in sugar, eggs, flour, salt & vanilla. Top with nuts if desired. Bake at 400 degrees for 12 minutes
Yields 2.5 dozen 2 inch squares.

Tradition is something I love to keep around, no matter how much everything else changes. Some of my best memories are tied to cooking with family during the Christmas season. When the kitchen begins to smell like these easy to bake chocolate fudge bars, we know it’s finally Christmastime in Columbia Illinois.
