Peppermint Patties – Christmas Candy Contest


8 oz. Cream Cheese, Softened
1-1/2 tsp. Peppermint Extract
2 lbs. Powdered Sugar, Sifted
3/4 C. Milk Chocolate Chips
3/4 C. Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
3 Tbl. Shortening


Beat cream cheese and extract until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and beat well. Shape into 1″ balls and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment or waxed paper. Flatten into patties with the bottom of a drinking glass. Cover and chill for 1 hour. Melt the chips and shortening in the microwave. Stir until smooth. Cool slightly then dip the patties and place them back on the baking sheet. After they firm up, store them in the refrigerator.

These taste better than the store bought peppermint patties because you can adjust the amount of peppermint flavor by adding more or less extract according to your preference. There is no cooking involved so they are easy for anyone to make.
