White Christmas Fudge

2 Cups Sugar
1/2 Cup Sour Cream
1/3 Cup White Syrup
2 Tbsp Butter
1/4 tsp Salt
2 tsp Vanilla
1/4 Cup Quartered Maraschino Cherries (optional)
1 Cup chopped Walnuts (optional)

Combine the first 5 ingredients. Bring to boil slowly in a saucepan stirring until sugar dissolves. Boil without stirring until the temperature reaches 236 degrees with a candy thermometer (soft ball stage). Remove from heat and let stand for 15 minutes-do not stir. Add vanilla; beat until mixture starts to lose its gloss (about 8-10 minutes). Stir in the cherries and walnuts if desired and quickly pour onto a greased plate/pan. Cool and cut into squares. Makes about 1 1/2 pounds of fudge.

This fudge is loved by all. We made this fudge during the holidays with my husband’s grandmother. Now my children are making the fudge with their grandma. Family tradition loved and shared by many.
