Apple Cake in a Jar

Ingredients:
2/3 c. shortening
2 2/3 c. sugar
4 eggs
1tsp cinnamon
2 tsp soda
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp nutmeg
3 c. flour
2/3 c. water
3 c. grated apples
2/3 c. raisins
2/3 c. chopped nuts
Directions:
Grease eight wide mouth pint jars. Mix all dry ingredients including raisins, then add wet ingredients including apples. I like to leave some apple skins on before I grate for a beautiful baked color. Pour batter into jars until half full. Bake for 45 mins at 325 degrees. Immediately screw on a hot band and lid. Let cool. Label and give as gifts. Just a wonderful, dense cake perfect with coffee or spiced tea.
