The Museum on Main Street exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution and Illinois Humanities was on display in Shelbyville. The traveling exhibit, “Crossroads: Change in Rural America,” visited six rural Illinois locations, and Lake Shelbyville was the third location.
The Crossroads exhibit looks at the characteristics of rural America and how rural communities and rural Americans are changing for the future.
A local companion exhibit, “Change through a Local Lens,” was created by the Shelby County Bicentennial Group in which Shelby Electric Cooperative played a part. The local exhibit featured several themes including changes in Shelby County industry, innovation, technology, transportation, land-use, agriculture, etc. and included video highlights of changes in farming and special activities for children.
