Illinois EV rebate program begins

As of July 1, 2022, Illinois residents who buy a new or used all-electric vehicle (EV) from an Illinois licensed dealer are eligible for a $4,000 rebate. An all-electric motorcycle is eligible for a rebate of $1,500.

Through the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, this program was created in the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act energy legislation last fall and amended this spring to expand it statewide.

Buyers must apply for the rebate during an open rebate cycle and within 90 days of vehicle purchase. Applications for the first funding round are being accepted, which started July 1 and must be postmarked on or before Sept. 30, 2022.

To be eligible, the vehicle must be exclusively powered and refueled by electricity, plugged in to charge, and licensed to drive on public roadways.
