Jo-Carroll Energy, Elizabeth, and Bluestem Energy Solutions held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Apple Canyon Lake Community Solar site in August, celebrating the use of reliable, sustainable energy on the local power grid.
The Apple Canyon Lake Community Solar project was made possible due to renewable energy credit sales through the “Illinois Shines” program.
Jo-Carroll Energy members who subscribe to the project receive a portion of their energy from the facility, which offers potential electric bill savings while contributing to local renewable energy.
Bluestem is the project director and owner and has entered into long-term land lease agreements with local landowners who will benefit from annual lease payments. Bluestem will plant a pollinator mix of local flowers and native seeds beneath the solar panels to benefit area crops, habitat and soil quality.
