Chunky Strawberry Applesauce
- 3 sweet apples such as Fuji, Golden Delicious or Gala, peeled and chopped
- 3 tangy apples such as McIntosh, Pink Lady or Braeburn, peeled and chopped
- 2 cups fresh strawberries chopped
- 1 cup water
- 1 orange zest and juice
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 pinch salt
- Mix apples, strawberries, water, orange zest, orange juice, cinnamon and salt in a Dutch oven. On stove over medium heat, cover the pot and bring the mixture to a boil. Lower heat and simmer 15 minutes, still covered. Stir occasionally. Remove the lid and simmer for 15 minutes longer. Stir occasionally and smash chunks of apple with the back of a spoon. Serve warm or chilled.
