Illinois co-op leaders visit D.C.

Illinois cooperative managers and directors joined nearly 2,000 electric cooperative leaders at the 2019 Legislative Conference held in Washington, D.C., April 28-May 1, 2019. The annual conference helps build a strong political identity for electric cooperatives and their consumer-members. Meetings with individual legislators gives them a connection to home, develops a level of trust and makes them more aware of how their decisions affect their rural constituents.

Representatives from 24 Illinois distribution, generation and transmission cooperatives and the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives (AIEC) spent time on Capitol Hill talking to Illinois congressional members and staff about legislative issues affecting electric cooperatives and their member-owners. Attendees met with U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth and six U.S. Representatives including Rodney Davis, Darin LaHood, Mike Bost, Adam Kinzinger, John Shimkus and Cheri Bustos.
